Earth Emerson Selected for President’s Sustainability Committee
Boston, MA (November 22, 2010) – Emerson College President Jackie Liebergott has appointed members of Earth Emerson, the student-run environmental action organization, to be a part of a new Sustainability Committee.
Members of the new committee will develop a plan to help Emerson achieve climate neutrality, integrate the principles of sustainability into the curriculum, and improve the environmental profile of Emerson College. Selected committee members include Earth Emerson Co-Presidents Jillian Tedeschi and Molly LaFlesh, and staff advisor Jonathan Satriale.
In the fall of 2007, President Liebergott signed the American College and University Presidents’ Climate Commitment. As part of the commitment, Emerson College is committed to reducing its carbon footprint through improvements in its operations and increasing education about sustainability.
To better coordinate Emerson’s efforts, the committee will develop strategies to increase campus sustainability, communicate sustainability efforts to the community, and develop an annual report that outlines the progress of the committee.
“Earth Emerson is committed to thinking globally about the environment and acting locally to effect change at Emerson College and in our community,” said Earth Emerson advisor Jonathan Satriale.“Emerson College has made progressive strides to become a greener campus by achieving LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) certification for the Piano Row residence hall as well as implementing green initiatives in the dining hall and other facilities. We couldn’t be more honored to be a part of the committee.”
