Earth Emerson/ Food Waste Study 2005
Phase I

Earth Emerson conducted its annual Food Waste Study on Tuesday October 18th, 2005 and Wednesday October 19th, 2005.

The results are as follows:

332.25 lbs of food, which included 61 bowls of uneaten pasta and 11 uneaten full plate salads.

It did not include 8.5 uneaten apples, 39 uneaten chicken breasts, and 9 uneaten sets of ribs (apples, chicken breasts and ribs include parts which people cannot eat and therefore could not be weighed with the normal food waste).

Additionally, 5 recyclable containers were collected.

Last year just under 400 lbs of food was wasted during the food study.  In the year before students wasted 470 lbs of food, so we have seen a steady decrease in the amount of food wasted!!!  (prior studies were conducted on a Tuesday and Wednesday of the regular school year from 5pm  - 8pm, making the studies comparable in scope) We encourage everyone to continue to reduce the amount of waste they create in their daily lives.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

Thank you to all who gave their time to help out at the food study!  Great work!
